About New Brighton
New Brighton is one of southeast Calgary’s most popular young-family communities — a master-planned neighbourhood by Carma (now Brookfield Residential) that grew rapidly through the 2000s and 2010s into a settled community of roughly 13,000 people. It sits in Ward 12, east of 52nd Street SE and south of 130th Avenue and McIvor Boulevard, directly beside McKenzie Towne and Copperfield — which puts a huge amount of shopping and services within a few minutes’ drive while the streets themselves stay residential and quiet.
What sets New Brighton apart is its residents’ association. Homeowners pay an annual fee that funds the New Brighton Club — a private, community-owned clubhouse and grounds that give the neighbourhood a built-in social life most suburbs simply don’t have. For buyers comparing the southeast’s newer communities, New Brighton’s pitch is straightforward: attainable family homes, real amenities you’ll actually use, and neighbours at the same stage of life.

Housing in New Brighton
New Brighton’s housing mix leans family-first and value-forward:
- Two-storey family homes — the community’s core: front-garage and laned homes from the 2000s–2010s, many backing green space or pathways.
- Starter & laned homes — more attainable detached options that make New Brighton a first-detached-home favourite.
- Townhomes & duplexes — a healthy stock of well-priced multi-family, popular with first-time buyers and downsizers alike.
- Condos — apartment-style options near the community’s commercial edges.

Shopping & everyday amenities
New Brighton is minutes from two of the southeast’s biggest retail hubs: the 130th Avenue SE corridor (big-box stores, groceries, restaurants, banks, services) and McKenzie Towne’s High Street for the walkable cafe-and-pub main-street experience. New Brighton’s own commercial areas add daily conveniences closer to home, and Stoney and Deerfoot Trail on the community’s edges make the commute — downtown, the airport, or the mountains — straightforward. South Health Campus hospital in Seton is a short drive south.

Parks, playgrounds & the New Brighton Club
The heart of the community is the New Brighton Club — the residents’ own clubhouse with a splash/water park, hockey rink, tennis and sport courts, banquet space, and year-round programming, funded by the annual residents’ association fee (worth budgeting for; I’ll confirm the current amount when we talk specifics). Around it: the central pond with its bell tower, connected pathways, green spaces, and plenty of playgrounds. It’s the kind of amenity package that usually requires a lake community’s price tag — without one.

Schools
Schools serving the New Brighton area include:
- New Brighton School — public elementary, in the community.
- Dr. Martha Cohen School — public middle school serving the area.
- St. Albert the Great School — Catholic (K–9) serving the McKenzie Towne / New Brighton area.
- Nearby high schools — designated schools in the surrounding southeast, reached by bus or a short drive.
🎓 Buying for the schools? Catchments and designated schools change, and they’re set by address — not just community. Tell me the school that matters to you and I’ll confirm exactly which homes fall inside its boundary before you fall for one.
